Regina artist Rebecca Nielsen, started painting at age 17 as “it was a good stress relief to have a creative outlet”. Recently, Rebecca has been painting more than ever with new found inspiration, “I feel like I have really broken out in the last year once I poured more time and energy into painting.” Her work can be described as Symbolic and Expressionist, using common themes of people, anatomy, energy and nature. “My inspirations are Alex Grey, and Regina’s own Roberto Lopez Lopez.”
On July 12th and 13th Rebecca will be participating in “Cravin’ Art” at the Artful Dodger Café and Music Emporium, “I will have some pieces for sale as well as doing some live painting. There will also be other artists involved, as well as live music and good times.” Also watch for her at the new “Sunday Art Market”, open Sunday afternoons at the Cathedral Neighborhood Center. Be sure to check out these events and meet Rebecca in person! Her work is currently on display and for sale at Roca Jacks, 2610 13th Avenue in Regina.
A legendary Sask song….
Crystal Van Pelt of Regina was the recipient of the Women in Film and Television (WIFT) Picture Box Distribution mentorship award; a Canada wide contest with only one recipient. She was presented with the award December 4th, 2012 in Toronto at the Crystal Gala Awards – very fitting. Due to a demand in Canada for more film and television distributors, WIFT partnered with Picture Box Distribution to create this unique opportunity. The role of a distributor is to search and acquire film & television shows from producers and present them to broadcasters/buyers. Distributors are also in charge of determining a broadcasters programming needs and sourcing producer’s content to fill those needs. Crystal’s mentorship will involve preparing and executing pitches, drafting license agreements, running a distribution company from beginning to end, and data system and multi media training. She is stoked about the opportunity to network with inspiring people in her industry and return to Regina to incorporate her mentorship training into her Regina based company, Echolands Creative Group. Echolands is currently working at strengthening their corporate and feature film divisions; Crystal’s new training will definitely come in handy. It should also be mentioned that part of the mentorship includes the opportunity to travel to Europe! Crystal will stay in Cannes, France for one week to pitch various projects and use her newly acquired skills. She started her road trip to Toronto in February to begin her three month journey. Good luck Crystal with this amazing experience. You have made Saskatchewan proud!
It was a blizzardy Friday around 5:00pm in when my 1970’s washing machine started acting up. A machine full of clothes and water would not drain. Do I try to fix it myself? I know, I’ll YouTube a solution! Ok, maybe not, I better call a professional. But it’s 5:00 on a Friday, and there’s a blizzard, what are the chances that a repair company will be open and willing to come out a this time. So I get on google, and I find a ‘Dave’s Appliance Repair’ ad on Used Regina. So I call Dave and I could not believe my ears when he said he would be out right away to fix the problem! He came over in a jiffy, fixed up my washing machine and within 2 hours of my washing machine breaking, it was fixed again! Thanks Dave! I highly recommend when one of your appliances konks out to call Dave at 522-4520, Monday to Saturday 8am to 8pm. Regina and area. You’re awesome Dave!
These beautiful ladies from Toronto graced us with their music this past month at the Pit and Pickle in Montmartre, Saskatchewan. They went on to tour Europe and played in Montmartre, France the next week. Their harmonies are as lovely as their personalities! Come back to Sask again ladies!
